Are there some good Birding places to visit
on Central Florida's West Coast?

Ranger Dave Writes:

As a Park Ranger for the Pinellas County Parks Dept . I would like to invite those interested parties to visit our facilities. We currently have 22 parks operating and more are under development .

We have seaside and inland parks on many major migration routes and have both permanent and seasonal species in evidence.

LEARNING CENTER

Our learning center has a staff of naturalists with teaching degrees and a creditable staff of assistants. Accommodations are readily available nearby in all price ranges and service levels. All parks are handicapped accessible and we have many elderly patrons .

PINELLAS TRAIL PARK

The Pinellas Trail is a linear park with approximately 45 miles of patrolled improved walking and hiking trail with improvements constantly being upgraded.

FRED HOWARD PARK- TARPON SPRINGS

I personally like the Fred H. Howard Park in Tarpon Springs which is a pleasant predominantly Greek Seaside community with a wildlife preserve and wetland estuary. Our local bird rescue group "Friends of the Feathered " do an excellent job and are very helpful.

SEABIRD SANCTUARY / CLEARWATER MARINE SCIENCE CENTER- CLEARWATER

Further south in the same county is Seabird Sanctuary, and the Clearwater Marine Science Center. There are lots of tourist activities and attractions in the area. Our parks do not charge except for overnight camping . We open at 7 AM and close after the sun sets (which presently [summer hours] is about 9 PM). Please come visit us or relay any such invitation to interested visitors.
