Great Birding Location: Lake Hollingsworth, Lakeland, FL

This is an beautiful place to visit for excellent birding. It is located in the heart of Central Florida. Lake Hollingsworth is a relatively small lake in the center of Lakeland. It is surrounded by a three mile paved walking path. The path also passes the campus of Florida Southern College. Many of the buildings around the lake were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. So the view is great if you like birds or if you like beautiful/interesting architecture. The lake is host to a number of excellent bird residents. Recent reports include the following:

The lake water level is down during the dry season the birds love it.

DIRECTIONS

  1. Take Interstate 4 from Tampa or Orlando Exit at Lakeland.
  2. Head towards town (southeast) The lake is in the Center of town.
  3. State road 37 is to the west side of the lake and has several short streets leading to the lake.
