From: Dwight To: Central Florida Bird Watchers Subject: February Birding
How good is the birding and what kinds of birds could we see in
February?
February is perhaps the best month to see our birds and wildlife here in Central Florida.
For example the Merritt Island Wildlife
Refuge (MINWR) is a natural buffer zone around the Kennedy
Space Center that has been preserved and managed by the U.S. Wildlife Service since 1958. Because of this, MINWR has over 500 species of wildlife including 21 federal and state listed threatened and endangered species, and 330 species of birds.
During February it is possible to see our great assortment of wintering waterfowl and
shore birds, nesting American Bald Eagles, marsh hawks, red-tailed and red-shouldered
hawks, ospreys, merlins and American Kestrel. On warmer days you could see sun-bathing
alligators.
To get the most out of you trip, I'd like to suggest you see our web page outlining our
birding or photography personal guide services.
Our Guide Services
February is a great time to visit Central Florida. To see a complete list of which birds
are here during the winter visit our Bird Lists page. Each list has an indication of
which birds are here during which season.
