Buck Lake Conservation Area

The Buck Lake Conservation Area is located in Brevard/Seminole Counties Florida, The west entrance is located just 1/2 mile west of the Brevard/Seminole County line on State Road 46. State road 46 links the picturesque Florida towns of Sanford to the west and Mims to the east. Mims is about ten minutes north of Titusville, Florida. This little known conservation area is just about as wild as Florida gets. Motor vehicle access to the area is prohibited.

The Buck Lake Conservation Area is 9,291 acres of natural woodlands and wetlands. The endangered Florida Scrub Jay can often be seen in the eastern part of the conservation area. This area is noted for its 200 acres of scrubby flat woods.

It is not uncommon to spot the following: Florida Scrub Jay, Hairy Woodpecker, Wood Stork, Ground Dove, Palm Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Turkey Vulture and Black Vulture. Songbirds are abundant during the migration season. Other interesting sights include:

Other activities include the following: hiking, horseback riding, bicycling, fishing and primitive camping.

Directions

In Brevard County, take I-95 to exit 81, State Road 46, travel west on SR 46 about 6.4 miles. There are two separated parking areas on the (north) side of the road.
